Toyota RAV4 Q&A

Toyota RAV4

Question: Toyota Rav4?
Atleast i think well theres the picture and thats what i want! omg so freakin bad! whos sellin one?

Answer: This is actually the last generation of the RAV4 that was redesigned for the 2007 model year. You should have no problem trying to find them in your local classified ads, swap sheets or on dealer lots as a fair number were traded in on the newer model. They looked like that on the Non-Limited models from the 2002-2006 model years. Hope this helps.

Question: How do you like your Toyota Rav4?
I'm currently in the process of doing some research for a new car and am very interested in the Toyota Rav4's. Just wanted to know how people like, or don't like, theirs, it seems like it would be a good fit for my husband and I to have with our dog and eventually a family?! Any thoughts?

Answer: Well... The RAV4 has always been a favourite vehicle... It has great looks, good gas milage, above avg. reliability rating, good performance and sufficient space.. I don't own a RAV4 but my friend does and he's completely delighted over it. I too am impressed by it.. You shouldn't be worried to consider a RAV 4 with all its plus points plus it has a good re-sale value too... Very few vehicles can match it... Since you can't buy the Nissan X-Trail in the US, don't think twice, just go for the RAV4.

Question: How do you put a subwoofer in a Toyota 08 rav4 with a navigation system installed?
I have a 08 Toyota Rav4 with a standard upgrade to the in dash navagation syste which is also my cd player.
How do i connect amps and subs to this. since i have a 4k system just sitting there.
thanks

Answer: You have a couple of different options and they depend on the money you decide to spend. You can start off by using a Line Level Converter, which is the simplest. All it does is change the sound level you get from the wires that run from the deck to the speakers to something lower for the amp to handle). You could also get into using the newer components that hook into the factory radio that are to an extent an EQ built just for what you want to do. They offer RCA outputs for amplifiers and adjustments to bring out the frequencies that are lost using a factory deck. You are looking at anywhere from 30 dollars or less to over 400 dollars. Again, just depends on what you want to do.

Question: Toyota rav4 1999 engine light comes on what to do?
how to get engine light to go off on a 1999 toyota rav4 and where is the gas filter located?

Answer: when the engine light turns on that means that a senor has been turned on. take it to a auto zone they let you know the code and the problem for FREE........good luck

Question: My family is planning on buying a new car, which is better, the Mercury Mariner or the Toyota Rav4?
What pro's and con's do each of these have? Right now, the Merucry Mariner looks more appealing to my family and I, but we want to compair and contrast it to the Toyota Rav4. Which is better and tell why.

Answer: The RAV4 is a better value in my opinion... Mercury being a ford affiliated brand will not have great resale value and reliablity... Plus, do you want your car warranty to be from a company which lost over $12billion last year (I think that is about $2k a minute and $400 a second they lost)...

I sell toyotas and own toyotas...

Which model, engine,4x4 or 2wd RAV4 are you thinking of? I can give you better pro's to buy a toyota then and it will help you in the long run by making a educated decision.

Question: My boyfriend and I want to exchange my toyota Rav4, for another car, but is it worth it?
Okay, so heres the story, I have a Toyota Rav4, that I bought in 2005, up until now the balance is $13,900 around there, and both me and my boyfriend want another car for me, since I've always wanted a small girly car, but how is the whole process of exchanging? Is it worth it? What happens to all the payments I made in the last two years?

Answer: It depends on what the car is worth to whoever is willing to buy it. If you sell the car yourself and can get the $13.9K then you can pay off your loan and start fresh with a new car.

However if you can only find someone who is willing to pay $10K for the car, you'll need to find some way to pay off the balance ($13.9K-10K = $3.9K). Means you need to find $3900 to pay off your debt for the car.

If you can sell if for more than it's worth, say you find a buyer willing to pay $15K, then you get to keep the difference ($15K-13.9K = $1.1K). Means the 2 years you've been paying the car off amounted to $1100.

If you go to a dealership to trade in the car, everything works pretty much the same, however they typically will only offer you what they feel the car is worth to them. Any difference in amount will be applied to your new car's loan balance. So if a dealership is only willing to pay $10K for your old car, they will typically add the $3.9K loan difference to your new loan. If they are willing to pay $15K, then they will reduce your new loan balance by the $1.1K

Is it worth it is really up to you to decide how long you want to continue to carry a loan balance, how much it will cost you or benefit you.

Question: What is really important to do in the 15000-mi service appt for a Toyota Rav4?
My 2005 Toyota Rav4 (4WD) is due for a 15,000-mi service. But, the dealership charges $199 for it! I understand the oil change, tire rotation, and checking the air filter/brake pads are important. How important is it to re-torque the drive shaft bolt? What does that even mean?

Here are the other recommended things to inspect:
~ Ball joints and dust covers
~ Brake lines and hoses
~ Drive shaft boots
~ Engine coolant 5
~ Exhaust pipes and mountings
~ Radiator core and condenser
~ Rear differential oil
~ Steering gear box
~ Steering linkage and boots
~ Transfer case oil

I do about 60% city driving with about 40% highway driving in an urban environment with light-medium traffic. I haven't driven off-road yet.

answer: I would change oil and filter, check and replace air cleaner if necessary, check the fulid levels and maybe rotate the tires. Engine coolant should be changed on a 24 month cycle. Also check the wiper blades.

Question: What are the symtoms of having a faulty oxygen sensor for a toyota rav4(2001)?
I've just bought a used toyota RAV4 recently. The time I test drive the car was very smooth and engine is very quite. For the past days, I notice specially when the engine is cold and when you start, the idle is to high and it take time before it goes to a normal state. I was thinking if its the oxygen sensor? spark plug? high tension wire or improper timing?

Answer: What does the temp gauge do? If it lags in the cold area for a long time or never gets up to about half way the thermostat could be sticking open. If it sticks open the engine will not reach normal operating temp, or at least will take a long time to do so. The computer will see the low temp and keep the idle up higher than normal. I'd suggest having someone check the engine actual temp against what the computer is seeing, too. That way you will know if the problem is "real" (thermostat?) or not (coolant temp sensor?) But it needs to be done by someone with experience with that type of situation, or you will end up spending money you didn't need to!

Question: Can someone who owns a 2007 Toyota RAV4 tell me the pros and cons of owning one?
We test drove one and really liked it, but have been hearing a lot of things about the engine noise on freeways. Can someone who owns one, tell us the pros and cons of a RAV4?

answer: I traded in a 1999 4Runner and a 2005 Corolla on a 2007 RAV4 about a month ago. I bought the 4 Cylinder Sport. I have heard no engine noise at all, in fact it has been a great little SUV. I'm not sure if you are looking at the base model, sport or limited, but I would recommend the Sport but in a V6 instead of the 4 cylinder I bought. You will get better power, and the gas mileage is not too different than the 4 cylinder. I had to buy a 4 cylinder in order to make an even exchange for my trades.

Generally speaking....

THE PROS:
-Can move the rear seat back further to make more room in the backseat.
-Comfortable seats
-6 CD changer nice amenity
-Dash set up nicely
-Lots of trunk space
-Very smooth ride, smooth shifting automatic transmission
-Gas mileage comparable to a car but SUV performance
-4WD performs awesome!
-Price is very good for the quality you get!

CONS:
-It is a small SUV, therefore if you haul lots of kids, pets, etc. it may be worthwhile to pass over the RAV or even Highlander for a 4Runner.
-Doesn't have 4WD in high and low
-As mentioned before, 4 cylinders lack power at critical points, like merging onto freeways, etc.

Overall, I'd pick a Toyota over any of its competitors. Hope my two cents helped!

Question: How do I replace the reverse light on my 04 Toyota Rav4?
I noticed recently that my Rav4 has a reverse light out. I can't figure out how to access the light to replace it does anyone have a clue?

Answer: in the boot there should be a section of the plastic u can take off to access the bulbs(u may need to take anouther panel insite that) then fing out which is brocken(test) and replace it.
OR there may be some screws on the outside of the car to take off the red plastic to acces the screws one of them anyway

Question: How much can I get for my Toyota Rav4?
I am selling my 2005 basic 2WD Rav4, with 29,000 miles on the clock. One owner, clean carfax history. It's also automatic.

How much do you think I can get for?

answer: Kelly Wholesale is $16975 and Retail is $20600. U decide from there what's fair.

Question: Can anyone please give your opinion on the Toyota Rav4?
I am looking at buying a 1998 Toyota Rav4 in nice shape with 4 wheel drive for 4700 dollars and was wondering what owners think of them. Is there anything special I should be looking at or checking? Thanks!

Answer: good price for that year.
Very reliable, not too much goes wrong with them, can't coment on any known fault's as none of the rav 4's that we service have developed any, in my opinion the are a very good little 4wd, very economical, and roomy to for the size.
Check the vehicles service history to see if the owner has kept it up to date, a well maintained car is a reliable car and less likely to have any problems.

Question: What do you feel are the best attributes to the Toyota Rav4, what do you think are the worst.?
I'm looking into getting a RAV4 within the next few months and just want to know what people feel the pros and cons are. Preferabley looking for answers from people who have, or know someone who has, one. Thanks!

answer: Had 2 of them, still have 1. They are great trucks. The gas mileage depending on engine size, if you buy AWD and your driving habit and conditions are good. then you should average 20mpg. Easy to drive, economical and dependable. One of the better small SUV's out there. So far have had no cons about them.
good luck

Question: Where can I find the stock roof rack for 1998 Toyota Rav4?
I have searched with no luck, even called my local Toyota dealer and the rack is no longer available. Any help?? thank you!

Answer: that's going to be a junkyard item. Seriously, call auto salvage yards (in the yellow pages) to see if they have an intact roof rack.

The rest of the donor Rav4 may be mangled, but a pristine roof rack shouldn't be too hard to find.

Question: What does it mean if a 2001 Toyota Rav4 makes loud humming noise at 40 mph?
My Rav only makes this humming noise for about 1/2 a mile the first time it hits 40 mph each day. Could it be something wrong with the car? Or is it just because I live in cold weather (below freezing)? I always have at least half a tank of gas and I run my car in my driveway each morning for at least 5-10 mins before driving. Any thoughts?

Answer: If it changed tone / intensite if you steer one way or other could be a wheel bearing beginning to fail, and after that halg mile it "eases" a little, if so it will only get worse.

<< Had to change wheel bearings on my firsdt car, fun job . . snapped a 1/2" drive socket head clean off. . .

Question: Should I buy an extended warranty for 2004 toyota rav4 chili edition?
I am buying from a dealer where original owner had regular service/maintenance done. Also carproof report came back clean. There is 1yr left on manufacturer warranty for tranny etc only. The dealer is offering a 3yr costing 1800 for 1600. For the car experts out there is it worth it? Also is there specific questions I should ask about the coverage?

Answer: If regular service was really done, I'd put the money in the bank and insure myself against future problems knowing that I bought a used car from the best reliable company, Toyota. Really, the only significant thing your insuring against is failure of the transmission, and I'd take a chance on that.
